Origine

The Bullmastiff breed is of British origin and was created at the beginning of the 19th century. Derived from a crossbreeding between the mastiff and the bulldog, it was created to help the gamekeepers against poaching.

The Bullmastiff’s job at that time was to locate, catch and to lay a poacher on the ground without however biting him. Today’s Bullmastiff can be a good watchdog and at the same time an excellent family pet.

With its powerful structure, the Bullmastiff is a proud and noble dog giving an impression of great strength but without heaviness. Its body is compact and its head has a square appearance. It is a solid, active dog and has a lot of self-confidence. Its loyalty and devotion towards its master is without limit.

The Bullmastiff is a calm dog and is gentle with kids. It is also a protector and very brave, and this, for the whole family.

Education Tips

It is not in the Bullmastiff’s nature to be submissive but he will obey in order to please his master. His customary kindness must not let one forget his size and his strength; so it is important to give him a good education in a gentle but firm way.

Training

The Bullmastiff is an easy dog to train, he is always willing to please and he really likes treats. He always enjoys an energetic training and he will by far return the favour. Making sure your dog gets a good training means better taking care of him. An obedience class will help the dog’s social skills and he will become a pleasant companion to go out with.

Temperament

The bullmastiff is gentle, calm, very affectionate and a loyal dog. He is also a very intelligent and very sensitive dog. He really needs to be loved by the people surrounding him, which is a basic need to assure a proper development. The bullmastiff is a good dog for children; he has an incredible patience. Above all, what he wants most is to please his family.

The bullmastiff needs fresh air and likes to go play in the yard to relax. Since it is an active dog once outside, he likes to play in the snow, walk in the forest and loves to play on the waterside. He especially enjoys all activity involving the outdoors and it is a pleasure to watch him run.

The bullmastiff is a protective dog and hates violence but knows how to protect his family when necessary.
